my pug brutus hates his nails being cut, i usually take him to the vet to get his nails done. does anybody have any advice about what works for them? it usually takes 2 people to cut brutus nails. he wiggles real bad and will whine, and he will nibble on me sometimes.

Our two pugs are horrible when they get their nails cut as well! Baxter will have NOTHING to do with it, so we get his nails cut at the vet. Sofia is a squiggler, but we still try to cut her nails and get her more used to it. Baxter is just past the point of no return! haha
Have you considered using a Dremeling Tool or Nail Grinder?
Here is an article about Nail Care, that might be helpful.

Thank you for your reply and information you gave me MamaPugford. I wonder why most people with pugs have a hard time cutting nails, my cousin has 2 pugs and has the same problem. She takes hers to the vet as well, it's just easier I guess, but thanks again!

Hmmm not sure. With black nails, it can be difficult to see how far you should cut. Good luck if you try cutting the nails yourself!

Isis is SO bad that we had to take her to the vet AND have her sedated just for a nail trim (her tongue would turn blue if they didnt sedate her). We got one of those pedipaws grinder things a couple of weeks ago and after acclimating to it she is fine with it.

Pugs think nail trimming is the worse evil you can inflict upon them.
I lay Beijing in my lap on his back and constantly reassure him. I cut one nail and have to sooth him again. As far as the black nails, just trim a little at a time until you see the little dot in the middle of the nail.
Good luck! -

We have two puggys that refuse to let us cut their nails as well. Augustus has to be caged while we attempt to cut Oliver's nails because he thinks we are hurting Oliver and will interfere. Half of the time we give up because we are afraid of hurting either of them. When we talked to our vet the only recommendation he had was to give us a mild sedative to give them right before we cut their nails.
