Potty training regression?

We've got a 2 year old pug (Baxter) and a 5 month old pug (Sofia).
We're in the process of potty training Sofia and as of lately Baxter seems to be regressing and has started randomly urinating on the floor instead of the usual outside.
Has anybody had this happen before?

Nibbles is just over a year, and Buffy is about 6 months. Her house training . . . not so good yet. But Nibbles is still being very good! He eats, and then just trots outside. We're hoping Buffy will get better when she learns to use the dog door, but she's so tiny that in the cold weather we've had up till now she just sat outside and shivered.

I've also have two pugs around the same ages as yours, and Mona (the oldest) has had a few accidents, but I think she is testing her boundries and wants to make sure it's still not okay to poo inside. (Since she sees the puppy do it all the time grr.) Potty training pugs is always ana adventure!

My Nola has been having a potty problem too.
She doesn't like to potty outside anymore. This morning, I walked around our house for 45 minutes with her. She managed to poo, but no pee. After 45 minutes of walking, I had to go potty myself! (I had just woken up - got her leash on her and took her out. I was even still in my pj's!)
Anywoo - I feed her, run to the bathroom, and come out and find a HUGE puddle of pee rainfalling from the couch onto the floor.
I'm getting sooooooooooooooooooooo frustrated. We got her in May and she was doing super well. The third week in July she got spayed. In the beginning of the next week, my 16 year old cat, Bear, had an accident inside the house which Nola witnessed. Later that night, Nola peed on a throw rug. She's been doing it ever since.
HELP!!!!!!!!!! My carpet cleaner is wearing out and I'm going broke washing my bedding (yes, my bed is another favorite place for her to potty!). Anyone have any ideas/advice?

PS - Sorry Pugmama - I didn't realize someone already had a version of that name when I registered!

Hi Sue. Something worth trying is to make sure you're treating Nola when she does go to the bathroom outside. Pugs tend to be very food-motivated so it's quite possible she'll pick up quickly that it's a much better thing for her to use the bathroom outside.
Positive reinforcement is key. Many times negative reinforcement (ie. spanking, yelling, etc) will make your pet afraid to use the bathroom around you so it can be even harder to get them to go outside.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice. Actually, for the last couple weeks I have been giving Nola treats when she goes potty outside.
Last night she got away from me for 2 minutes while I was making dinner. She was at my feet, and then when I looked down, she was gone.
I went to the bedroom - and there she was, on the bed leaving her water-mark.
Needless to say, I just got back from the vet. Nola is staying there right now. They are trying to get a urine sample. The vet thinks she has a UTI. The vet told me that it is common for dogs to pee on your bed as a sign that they need your attention - it's kind of like they yelling, "Mom! It burns when I pee! HELP!"

I hate the idea she's ill, but to be honest, I'd rather she be ill and we can give her meds to make her feel better. If she's just seeking attention or is 'marking' her territory, it will be harder to fix.
Sue

Thanks for listening!

my pug junior is potty trained, he will scratch at the door to go out. he learned that from my older shep-mix. my problem is he gets mad when I leave him at home, he goes almost every where with me, he will go poop in one of the less used rooms in the house. I think he knows better he just wants to show me he is mad. I will take him out and he will go potty, bring him in then take off for an hour or two and come home and find poop. so I know it wasn't that he could not hold it. anyone else have this sort of problem

Hmmm... this is interesting. I guess pugs think its okay to do what they see other pets do, because one of our cats sometimes has accidents in the room he's usually in, and my pug keeps sneaking into the same room and peeing and pooping there, even thought I take him out on many walks a day for long periods of time.

pugpaws....he might actually be marking over the area that your cat is going on. you really have to neutralize the urine with something like natures miracle otherwise although you clean it well and we might not smell it...dogs sense of smell is so much more developed that they still can smell it and he is one upping your kitty!

A suggestion for the bed- put plastic over it, it discourages peeing on it big time! My Pug peed once on my bed (when I had left, I think to show me he wasn't happy about it.) I shoved his face in it and made him stay out of my room while I cleaned it up and for the rest of the evening, except to get in his crate at bedtime. After that he did try to mark on the side of my bed one time while I was gone, and he got the same punishment. I started closing the bedroom door when I left, because I don't want to deal with a bed that smells like dog pee- it already smells like dog hair!
But it has been left open a few times and he hasn't done anything in there again. If he did, I would start putting plastic on the bed- dogs like to pee but they don't like to get pee on themselves, and plastic sheeting just makes it all run back onto them. They learn quick that way, and soon enough they learn the bed is not the place for peeing! As for going outside- gotta love the doggie door, it's saved my furniture! I taught him quickly by shutting the door behind me and then calling to him through the plastic. He was a bit hesitant at first, but soon enough he realized it was worth jumping through to get to me!

just a thought- maybe try putting the plastic underneath an old fitted sheet on your bed and see how she does. If she does pee on it she should still get the yucky pee on my feet feeling, and you can see if you still need to keep the plastic on. If she sees the bed is plastic free and she wants to pee on it, she will, and you'll know you have to continue with the plastic until you find another solution. Or, hopefully, she will have gotten over the urge and will do nothing more than maybe nap up there!

I would suggest puppy pads.. start them off in the house , treat them when they use them then eventually bring the pad outside, they arent expensive and it works, pebbles my pug isnt even a year old yet and she is potty trained.
